One of my philosophy professors used to go to a retreat once a year. You could go for 6 days, 15 days or 24 days (I do not know the significance of the length of your stay) - it once you arrived, you were on a strict schedule and could communicate with no one. Visual acknowledgment was allowed, but for the most part, your schedule put you in various places on the grounds through out the day, and 3 breaks for eating.
He said it is the most wonderfully terrifying experience ever. First you try to distract yourself with your normal things. Then comes thinking about everyone you know. Then you have nothing let except you. He said he cried for almost 48 hours solid after the fifth day, but after that - an immense weight was lifted and things came into perspective.
I would love to try it and I think you might find this to be a good thing, and, the beginning of a long, wonderful journey.
